Suitcase, polaroids, marker, acrylic, linen, vines, thorns and found objects
27" x 22"x 4' 3"
A vintage suitcase is filled with some personal objects and small articles of clothing that I found in a suitcase after my mother's death. Pink plastic
hair curlers, a scarf, bobby pins, a girdle and a pack of Carlton cigarettes
are a few of the objects that peek out from the thorns. The Irish linen
tablecloth is a family heirloom.
I photographed myself each day of the month that this installation was
displayed outside in the quadrangle at Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta.
In each shot, I am holding a white index card inscribed with my feeling at
the moment that I am photographed. Each day I attached the Polaroid to a
calendar painted on the inside of the suitcase. Rain and sun poured over my
mother's remaining objects and my month of living feelings and faces.
