Back to Performance

Missing - Performance walk and street intervention, 6 hours, ©1997 ten miles, Atlanta to Decatur, Georgia

The Missing Walk was a physical attempt through my body, to find my real mother, the woman I knew before dementia changed her brain and her appearance. I printed, posted and handed out 50 fliers to random passersby on my journey from my house in Atlanta to her nursing home in Decatur, Georgia. Fifty was my age at the time of the performance.

Wearing one of her dresses, I undertook a neighborhood search on foot for the whereabouts of Hazel Kane, 89 years old, 5' 7" tall, wrinkled skin, grey hair, blue eyes.
